The play-in of one of the most traditional Counter-Strike championships began this Wednesday with an upset for Brazilians, as FURIA debuted with a defeat against TheMongolz at IEM Katowice. Kaike "KSCERATO" team returns to the server this Thursday against Apeks. The Play-in will give eight spots to the US$1 million tournament in Poland, with Eternal Fire and Heroic already guaranteed in the group stage in the first CS2 tournament at IEM Katowice.

There were eight matches in a best-of-one series in the initial phase of IEM Katowice. The day started with Martin "stavn" and Jakob "jabbi" failing to overcome Heroic. Astralis were defeated 13-11 at Mirage. Another standout match was Spirit against Apeks. The Russians were inspired and Danil "donk" yelling pushed the team to their first 13-0 of the competition.
The two matches in Bo3 defined that Eternal Fire and Heroic are already in the group stage of the event. The Turkish Eternal Fire beat Rebels 2-0 and Heroic needed three maps to secure victory over BIG. René "TeSeS" secured ace and important clutches. All games until the final will be in Bo3 series.
In the match with the only Brazilian team in the tournament and with the only decision in overtime, FURIA started from CT at Mirage, but fell behind on the scoreboard, 7-5. The match had FURIA's advantage 12-11, but the game went on to OT and the Mongolian team won 16 to 14. Munkhold "Senzu" was responsible for 29 kills and a rating of 1.29.
