Four teams were eliminated from the IEM Katowice play-in this Thursday, including FURIA and Astralis. The brazilians lost to Apeks 2-1 and ENCE beat Astralis 2-0. On the other hand, GamerLegion and Spirit joined Heroic and Eternal Fire in the group stage of the $1 million tournament. This Friday, other four teams advance to the main phase of the event, which begins on Saturday, the 3rd.
After suffering a 13-0 defeat to Spirit, Apeks reacted and managed to breathe in the championship. Against FURIA, the European team played at Inferno and won 13 to 9. At Mirage, Apeks opened 10 to 2, but the Brazilians managed the turnaround and closed at 13 to 10. Ancient was in the hands of the Europeans for 13 to 11.
In the match that was worth a spot in the group stage, Spirit faced TheMongolz and defeated Mirage 13-2 and then managed to secure a 16-14 victory over Ancient. Again with Danil "donk" show. GamerLegion faced Virtus.pro and needed three maps to secure one of the eight spots in the next stage of the event.
In the knockout games, ENCE defeated Astralis 2-0. Lukas "gla1ve" led the Poles against his former team and ensured their survival in the tournament. M80 secured an easy 2-0 victory over Rooster. Cloud9 managed to stay standing after beating BetBoom 2-1.
