League of Legends: Korea defeat China and goes for the gold medal against Taipei

There's one match ahead for Faker's (and obviously all his teammates) desire to win a gold medal at the Asian Games comes true. South Korea beat China in the semifinals this Thursday, in a a highly anticipated match between the best of the LPL and LCK. This Friday, Ruler's team faces Taipei at the event in China.

The matches in Hangzhou were not a stomp, despite the Korean victory by 2-0. After the Nexus went down, the expectation is that Korea will win the gold medal, as this should have been the most complicated match. If this happens, players are exempt from military service (athletes who win a gold medal get this "perk").

In the other semifinal between Taipei and Vietnam, the score was the same with Taipei advancing to the final.

Electronic sports at the Asian Games will have 21 medals up for grabs in LoL, Street Fighter 5, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, Arena of Valor, PUBG Mobile, Dota 2 and EA Sports FC (formerly FIFA). It is the first official time for esports at the event that takes place every four years (it was postponed in 2022 due to the COVID pandemic).
