At the gold medal match at the Asian Games, South Korea faced Tapiei this Friday with a 2-0 victory. The team beat China in the semifinal and was already on its way to the title as they confirmed it in Hangzhou, China . With the achievement, Korean players are exempt from mandatory military service (every gold medalist athlete receives this "perk" and military service is mandatory between the ages of 18 and 35). Completing the podium were the Chinese who took the bronze medal.

LoL's GOAT, Faker, didn't play, but was there as a key player to share his experience. Either way, he secured the medal with Zeus, Kanavi, Chovi, Ruler and Keria. Both games lasted less than 30 minutes with Ruler achieving a 10/3/5 AMA on the second match.

The six players now continue to prepare for the Worlds, in South Korea. They will play at the Main Stage on October 19th for their respective teams: JD Gaming, T1 and Gen G.

Electronic sports at the Asian Games has 21 medals up for grabs in LoL, Street Fighter 5, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, Arena of Valor, PUBG Mobile, Dota 2 and EA Sports FC (formerly FIFA). It is the first official time for esports at the event that takes place every four years (it was postponed in 2022 due to the COVID pandemic).
