With five titles in 2023 and five MVPs, Mathieu "ZywOo" was chosen for the third time as the best player in the world in the HLTV ranking. The revelation was made at the HLTV Award Show, in Serbia, this Saturday. The 23-year-old Frenchman was also selected number 1 in 2019 and 2020, being beaten by Oleksandr "s1mple" in 2021 and 2022. The Ukrainian also won in 2018.
With Vitality, ZywOo won IEM Rio, Gamers8, BLAST World Final, BLAST.tv Paris Major and the Blast Premier World Final. In all tournaments, he was selected as the MVP. In addition to ZyOo, Vitality won Team of the Year, Dan "apEX was chosen as best captain, Danny "zonic" as best coach, ZywOo also won the trophy for best AWPer and Emil "Magisk" was named best anchor.
ZywOo's 1v4 clutch in the match against G2 at the Major was also awarded and won as the highlight of 2023. Ilya "m0NESY" came in second, despite having won the award for best move at the Esports Awards, for his ace against Astralis.
During the awards ceremony, HLTV also called to the stage Nikola "NiKo", from G2, who was second best and Robin "ropz", from FaZe, as third. NiKo was also selected as best opener and ropz as best closer. The gala night also celebrated the best in each of Counter-Strike's positions and handed out popular vote awards.
